Fuente de Piedra is a typical Andalusian village in the province of Malaga. In this quiet, idyllic village, you can experience traditional Andalusia far away from mass tourism. The historic town center is surrounded by beautiful
The town is adorned with neoclassical buildings with iron details and the stone fountain “Fuente de la Piedra” and the parish church “Nuestra Senore de las Virtudes” are real highlights of the town. Various festivals are held several times a year,
that immerse you in the traditional culture of Andalusia.
A real highlight of the region is the saltwater lagoon of the same name, which can be reached in just a few kilometers. A wide variety of birds can be observed here all year round. In spring (between March and June), the lagoon becomes the largest breeding ground for pink flamingos in Spain. More than 50,000 flamingos congregate here, which can be easily observed from various vantage points. There are also various hiking and cycling trails around the lagoon.
One of Andalusia’s most famous wine villages, the 250-hectare Vistahermosa vineyard, is also located nearby. At the Bodegas de Malaga Virgen winery, wine lovers get their money’s worth and can
taste the wines grown there.
Fuente de Piedra has a very central location in Andalusia and is therefore the perfect starting point for exploring the most famous places in Andalusia without having to constantly change hotels.

Local Parties & Festivals
All year round there are special festivals and fairs where you can experience the customs of the Andalusians.
For example, every year in July the “Feria” takes place, which transforms the village for four days into a single fair with bumper cars, dance events and “Miss and Mister elections”.
In September the patron saint’s festival takes place, which attracts riders and their horses from all over Andalusia to a skill competition in the centre of the village. A great experience, which ends with the altar from the church being carried through the whole village at night.

The way to the visitor center (Centro de Visitantes) of the lagoon on the outskirts is signposted everywhere. There are also other viewpoints (Mirador de La Vicaría) and observation posts around the lagoon, from which one you can have a look at the flamingos and other rare water birds. These observations points are a great spot for taking rare photos as well.
